group picture of the SMU christian fellowship

Background

SMU Christian Fellowship was originally founded in 2000 by SMU students who wanted to start a student ministry in SMU where fellow Christians can encourage one another, grow spiritually through the gospel and share their faith with other non-believers.

SMUCF is independent and does not have a parent body.

Our Convictions

Our Mission

We strive to present every Christian student mature in Jesus Christ by faithfully understanding, living and proclaiming the Gospel.

Our Goals

To promote spiritual growth, maintain an effective witness for Christ, and to present the challenge of evangelistic work and missionary service to students in SMU.

Our Structure

We are served by a Graduate Advisory Committee formed by alumni, an executive committee of students, and a team of full-time staff and ministry associates.

Our Statement of Faith

SMUCF upholds the fundamental truths of Christianity including:

a) The unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.

b) The Sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgment.

c) The divine inspiration and entire trustworthiness of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

d) The universal sinfulness and guilt of all men since the fall, rendering them subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

e) Redemption from the guilt, penalty, dominion and pollution of sin, solely through the sacrificial death (as or Representative and Substitute) of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.

f) The bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead and His ascension to the right hand of God the Father.

g) The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration.

h) The justification of the sinner by the grace of God through faith alone.

i) The one Holy Universal Church which is the Body of Christ and to which all true believers belong.

j) The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.

k) The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Walk Ups

As we grow in our recognition of the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection is, doing walk ups to people on campus and sharing the gospel through a presentation called ‘Two Ways to Live‘ is something we do through the semester as well.

Missions Week

An evangelistic event in the first semester where we have a series of talks on topics that are especially relevant such as wealth, love, future, or suffering. It is a great opportunity for non-believers to listen to a Christian perspective on these ‘hot’ topics.

The Biggest Question

An annual evangelistic event in the second semester where we answer the biggest question SMU has for God by seeing what the Bible has to say. This is an opportunity for students to invite anyone who is interested to know more about Jesus.

At the end of the academic year we also go through a book that addresses particularly difficult spiritual matters. It is a time of fruitful discussion where students can ask questions and encourage one another throughout the weeks.

Our Staff Team

Paul Wong

Paul Wong

Campus Pastor

Paul is married to Angela, and together they have two young daughters Elizabeth and Abigail. He graduated from Oak Hill Theological College, London in 2022, having been the former campus pastor at SMUCF (2016-2019). His past ministry experience also includes time as a full-time ministry associate in a large city-centre church in the UK. In a former life, Paul also spent 6 years as a corporate lawyer. He enjoys a round of golf (when he can!), reading history and spending time with his family, but most of all, he loves seeing people in SMU grow in their love and knowledge of Jesus.

Sarah Siew

Sarah Siew

Staff Worker

Sarah is grateful to God’s word and God’s family for continually teaching her to find her identity in Christ and her security in God’s love. So it’s a privilege for her to spend time with students in God’s word, prayer and sharing of lives — so that they both grow to cherish and obey their beautiful Lord and Saviour more fully despite the cost, following the footsteps of past generations of Christians. She graduated from Evangelical Theological College of Asia in 2020. She enjoys food, tea, fiction books, and nature.

Santhosh Watson

Santhosh Watson

Ministry Associate

Santhosh is a recent SMU graduate from the school of business and is a second-year ministry associate with the SMUCF. He loves all things fantastical and superhuman, a little too much caffeine, and getting into long discussions* about the political and economical state of the world. He’s incredibly grateful to God for being able to serve a supernatural Saviour, and point the students of SMU to a glorious new creation – free from all conflict and suffering.

Clara Ng

Clara Ng

Ministry Associate

Clara is a second-year ministry associate. She is married to Jing Yan, who is also in his second year of ministry training at their church. It’s been a joy and privilege to be back at SMUCF 6 years after graduating, to work for the same ministry which God used to grow her love for Jesus and His all-sufficient Word. She loves seeing rebel hearts grow to be gripped by His Word and turn to Jesus. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, nature, and more recently, is attempting to pick up an instrument that looks like 2 woks welded together.

Kan Wei Mun

Kan Wei Mun

Ministry Associate

Wei Mun is a second-year SMUCF ministry associate. Though most friends call her by her nickname ‘Wom’ (which sometimes means forgetting her actual name!), she’s humbled that her Creator has not forgotten her and has called her to be his beloved child. Everyday, she learns to live her life knowing that her true identity isn’t found in earthly achievements or silly childhood names, but in the Lord Jesus and what he has done for her. Her greatest hope is that those around her will come to do the same, through the power of God’s life-giving Word, just as it changed her.

Joy Lim

Joy Lim

Ministry Associate

Joy is the freshest graduate on the staff team, having graduated from SMU Business in 2022, and is a first-year ministry associate with SMUCF. As a student, the CF helped so much in growing her love and knowledge of God, and gave her many lovely Christ-like friends to spur her on. She’s so grateful that she now has the chance to serve this ministry full-time. When she’s off work, she loves to sing and make music, and has recently become a big fan of drip coffee (both making and drinking it!).
